As both a business owner and consumer, it is very important to understand both the importance of business growth and the significance of customer relationships.

From the outlook of a consumer, it is important that any company I do business with treats me with absolute honesty and integrity. I also expect that business to focus attention on my needs as a customer, versus their needs as a business; otherwise, why would I spend my hard-earned money with them?

From the perspective of a business, it is important that I keep my customers over a long period of time and keep them happy. To accomplish this I must provide a selection of quality products at competitive prices, create relationships centered on trust, and provide services that surpass my competition.

It is my experience that many businesses view these concepts as if they are in conflict with each other. The notion seems to be that in order to make companies profitable they have to take short cuts in the services offered to their customers. Many companies also cut costs by reducing the quality and longevity of products, creating a need for more frequent replacement. These decisions are based on the benefit of short-term profit, but at the expense of long-term relationships and business life.

I believe these business ideologies are mutually beneficial and not at all in conflict. One objective cannot exist without the other. To stay in business for the long run, you must make the consumer your primary interest and the business must be responsible for upholding the highest standards. Maintaining top-quality products and services increases customer satisfaction and leads to future referrals. Reducing these elements will often lead to a downward spiral and business failure.

As a business owner, I have the unique opportunity to practice what I seek as a consumer. As a business owner, I can sincerely say that I am proud of the high level of integrity and trust that we have established in both our business and personal relationships. I am proud of my talented staff and the vendors that supply us because they support these ideals both publically and in small ways hidden to the public eye. I am also greatly honored that top-level independent optometrists have chosen to work with us because they recognize the care and detail we put into everything we do.
